The Osun State Police Command has arrested 18 suspects, including two community chiefs and a hunters’ leader, over renewed violence linked to a protracted land dispute between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities.
The arrests followed a fresh clash involving residents of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun, which reportedly escalated tensions and led to the alleged assault of three police officers. A viral video showed a uniformed officer being beaten, forced to kneel, and made to apologise, an incident that has sparked public outrage.
Police said weapons including a gun, cartridge, and cutlass were recovered, adding that some suspects had initially gone into hiding before being tracked down. Authorities assured that investigations are ongoing and warned that anyone involved in the violence will face prosecution.
