Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, for the 2027 governorship race. The announcement signals early political alignment ahead of the elections. The endorsement followed a strategic closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina. During the meeting, Hamzat formally declared his intention to contest the governorship seat. Key stakeholders and State Executive Council members attended the high-level gathering.
Notably, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council were present at the meeting. These included Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon. Their presence reinforced the political weight behind the endorsement decision. Speaking after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu described the endorsement as unanimous. He stated that stakeholders agreed Hamzat possesses leadership competence and experience.
According to him, Hamzat understands governance structures and administrative processes deeply. Furthermore, the governor highlighted Hamzat’s track record over the past seven years. He emphasized qualities like integrity, loyalty, and commitment to governance. These attributes, he noted, position Hamzat as a strong successor. Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the influence of Bola Tinubu in shaping their political journey. He credited the president for fostering their working relationship and leadership growth.
Additionally, the governor described Hamzat as fully prepared for leadership responsibilities. He stressed that the deputy governor has consistently demonstrated capacity and readiness. The development underscores growing momentum within the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State. As a result, political activities are gradually intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections.
