Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Deontay Wilder is not currently in Anthony Joshua’s fight plans. This clarification comes amid growing speculation about a possible heavyweight clash. Joshua has reportedly been offered a July return under a Riyadh Season deal. This agreement also outlines a potential blockbuster fight against Tyson Fury in November.
However, Wilder is not included in the proposed fight schedule. Previously, Wilder sparked excitement after calling out Joshua following his win over Derek Chisora. That moment fueled hopes of a long-awaited showdown between both former world champions. Now, those expectations appear to have been firmly put on hold.
According to Hearn, key stakeholders prefer a direct path toward the Fury mega-fight. They are reportedly unwilling to risk the bout with a dangerous interim opponent like Wilder. Hearn explained that the deal prioritises a high-profile Joshua versus Fury showdown. He added that the arrangement was structured by Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season partners.
Consequently, Joshua is expected to take a lower-risk fight in July. This interim bout will serve as preparation for the November Fury clash. Although Joshua has no personal issue fighting Wilder, the deal structure limits options. Therefore, Wilder’s chances of featuring in the current plan remain highly unlikely.
