Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have killed four soldiers and one civilian in an attack on Mussa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The incident occurred around 12pm on Wednesday, according to local authorities. Chairman of the LGA, Mada Saidu, confirmed that the civilian victim was a woman.
Military sources revealed that the slain soldiers were from the 115 Task Force Battalion, adding that they were defending the town from infiltration when the attack happened. Despite resisting the insurgents, four troops were killed during the clash.
Residents reported hearing intense gunfire for about 30 minutes, forcing many to flee their homes. According to locals, the military’s response prevented further destruction.
The attack is the latest in a series of assaults targeting communities and security forces in the state.
