Several community leaders and residents, including two chiefs, a hunters’ association head, and 15 others, have been detained over recent violent clashes related to a longstanding boundary dispute between Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities in Osun State. The violence reportedly involved attacks on police officers and resulted in property damage and casualties.
A video circulating online showed a man in police uniform being assaulted and made to kneel, allegedly by a mob during the unrest. The incident followed a fresh clash between residents of Ilobu, Erin-Osun, and Ifon communities, intensifying tensions.
The police have arrested a total of 18 suspects, including the Baale of Apeponroro, Olaitan Bashiru; Baale of Oke Ayepe, Tajudeen Aralamo; and the head of hunters, Oluode of Ilobu, Mustau Salam. Weapons such as a single-barrel gun, a cartridge, and a cutlass were recovered during the operation.
The police confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected. Authorities urge residents to remain peaceful, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious activities to prevent further violence.
