Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has been granted temporary release by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on compassionate grounds to attend the burial of his late mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
El-Rufai, who has been in ICPC custody since February, is facing a 10-count charge bordering on alleged abuse of office, fraud, and money laundering. The commission accused him of receiving over ₦289 million in excess severance payments and additional foreign currency deposits while in office.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges, with the case adjourned for further hearing, including consideration of bail applications.
