The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspected Point of Sale fraudster, Jonathan Sambo Bitrus, for allegedly defrauding a PoS operator of ₦1,550,000 at Terminus Market.
According to police spokesperson Alfred Alabo, the victim, Josephine Morolayo, said the suspect initially asked to check his account balance before requesting a withdrawal of ₦1.95m.
After handing him the machine to input his PIN, she gave him ₦1.55m and asked him to wait for the remaining ₦400,000. However, she later discovered the receipt was from a previous transaction, while the suspect had fled.
Police said the suspect confessed to accessing the victim’s transaction history, mimicking a previous transaction, and cancelling the payment while collecting the cash. He also admitted using the money to buy an iPhone 13 Pro and clothing.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be charged in court, as the police urged the public to remain vigilant during financial transactions.
