President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Friday after a UK visit. They completed a two-day state engagement in the United Kingdom successfully. The presidential aircraft landed as senior officials warmly received the couple. Notably, Godswill Akpabio joined others to welcome them at arrival.
Meanwhile, media aide Sunday Dare shared the arrival video on X.He described the visit as highly successful and widely celebrated. Importantly, the trip marked a historic diplomatic milestone for Nigeria. It represented the first Nigerian state visit to the UK in 37 years. Earlier, the president departed Abuja and arrived in London on Tuesday.
Subsequently, King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted the delegation. They received a ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle with full honours. Additionally, both nations held a state banquet to strengthen diplomatic relations. During the banquet, Tinubu reflected on past support received in the UK. He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strong bilateral cooperation.
In response, King Charles praised both nations’ enduring partnership. Furthermore, Tinubu met Keir Starmer for high-level bilateral discussions. They explored opportunities to deepen economic and diplomatic collaboration. Consequently, officials signed a £746 million financing agreement.
The agreement involved UK Export Finance and Nigerian government institutions. Additionally, both countries reached a migration control agreement. This deal supports the return of asylum seekers and visa overstayers.
