Jumia Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to consumer protection through advanced technology and strict policies. The company highlighted this during World Consumer Rights Day celebrations in Lagos.
At a panel hosted by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Jumia outlined its protective measures. The company emphasised strong systems that ensure product authenticity across its platform.
According to Jumia, consumer safety begins with a rigorous seller onboarding process. Sellers must meet legal and regulatory standards before joining the platform. Consequently, non-compliant vendors face penalties, including permanent removal.
Furthermore, Jumia applies advanced catalogue controls and AI-driven verification tools. These tools help detect inaccurate product details and prevent misleading listings. As a result, customers can make more informed purchasing decisions.
The company also uses global product identification standards to strengthen its quality checks. In addition, continuous monitoring ensures that listed products meet required standards. Therefore, fraudulent or substandard items are quickly removed.
Transparency remains a key focus for Jumia’s operations. Product listings include verified descriptions, clear images, and detailed specifications. Moreover, educational campaigns help customers understand safe online shopping practices.
Jumia also promotes secure transactions through its payment platform, JumiaPay. The system complies with global data protection standards and local regulations. For instance, it aligns with frameworks from the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Beyond transactions, Jumia offers customer-friendly return and refund policies. It also provides support channels to resolve complaints efficiently.
As e-commerce grows in Nigeria, Jumia Nigeria continues to prioritise trust, transparency, and consumer safety.
