An unspecified number of people are feared dead, with many others injured, following bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday evening.
The blasts occurred around Monday Market and near a security post at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital at about 7:02 p.m., hours after suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched coordinated attacks on military positions in the state.
The Head of Operations of the Federal Fire Service Nigeria in Borno, Mohammed Kafaran, confirmed the incident, stating that emergency responders had been deployed to the scene.
Eyewitnesses reported casualties and multiple injuries, with victims rushed to hospitals, including the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri.
Earlier in the day, suspected terrorists attacked military outposts in Ajilari, Damboa and Baga, but were repelled by joint security forces, according to the Borno State Police Command.
Police spokesperson Nahum Daso said the attempted infiltrations were foiled through coordinated efforts involving the military, police, and local security groups.
Authorities said investigations and rescue operations are ongoing, while residents reported that calm has gradually returned to affected areas.
