The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Kwara State has raised concerns over increasing kidnappings and killings across communities in the Kwara South Senatorial District, urging authorities to take urgent steps to restore security.
The alarm followed a fresh attack in Oyatedo village in Irepodun Local Government Area, where suspected kidnappers reportedly killed an ECWA member, Omoniyi Ajise, and abducted his wife along with four other residents.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the ECWA Joint District Church Councils Forum, Samuel Adewumi, and Secretary Joseph Agboluaje, the church said kidnappings had become frequent in communities including Oro-Ago and Babanla.
The church leaders warned that insecurity was forcing farmers to abandon their farms during the cashew harvesting season, while several ECWA churches in affected communities had been shut as members and clergy fled for safety.
They called on the Federal Government, the Kwara State Government and security agencies to deploy more personnel and strengthen intelligence gathering to tackle the rising insecurity.
However, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the command had not received any official report of the incident but assured residents that security operations in the state were ongoing.
