Reigning African champions Nigeria will look to bounce back when they face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in their second friendly match today at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé.
Nigeria lost the first encounter 1-0 on Saturday after Yvana Mbomezomo struck a stoppage-time winner, handing the Falcons their first 90-minute defeat to African opposition since the 2022 WAFCON third-place match against Zambia.
Debutant goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor impressed despite conceding late, while second-half substitutes piled pressure on Cameroon, only to be denied by goalkeeper Ange Bawou.
Head coach Justin Madugu is expected to make tactical adjustments, with Chiamaka Nnadozie likely to return in goal. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and other attacking options, including Gift Monday and Rinsola Babajide, are available as Nigeria push for victory.
The friendly is part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria will compete in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi. The tournament runs from March 17 to April 3, with the four semi-finalists qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
