KPMG South Africa and KPMG One Africa have officially bid farewell to Ignatius Sehoole. The firms celebrated the conclusion of his impactful tenure as Chief Executive Officer. They hosted a farewell event in Johannesburg attended by business and government leaders. Regulators, academics, clients, and media executives also honoured his leadership.
The evening carried the theme, “From Leadership to Legacy.” It highlighted Sehoole’s role in restoring institutional credibility. Moreover, the ceremony marked a smooth transition to incoming CEO Joelene Pierce. The handover reinforced stakeholder confidence in the firm’s direction.
Sehoole assumed leadership in 2019 during a challenging period. At that time, the firm faced reputational and governance concerns. Therefore, he prioritised rebuilding trust and strengthening internal controls. He implemented governance reforms and improved audit quality standards. Additionally, he re-engaged regulators and key stakeholders across sectors.
As chair of KPMG One Africa, he advanced regional collaboration. He also elevated Africa’s representation on global business platforms. Consequently, the firm strengthened its continental influence and global partnerships.
Professor Wiseman Nkuhlu praised Sehoole’s integrity and moral courage. He noted that ethical leadership defined Sehoole’s tenure. Similarly, Joelene Pierce commended the stability he established. She pledged to build on his foundation of accountability and excellence.
Beyond corporate leadership, Sehoole values simplicity and reflection. His family describes his passion for farming and personal growth. As he exits executive duties in March 2026, he leaves lasting institutional stability.
