President Bola Tinubu has said the coincidence of the Christian season of Lent and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan beginning on the same day highlights the shared values among Nigerians.
In a special message to both faith communities in Abuja, the president described the rare occurrence as a reminder that Nigerians, as people of faith, have much in common and are united under God.
He urged Christians and Muslims to embrace peace, unity, and good neighbourliness during the sacred periods, while praying for national progress, stability, and security.
Tinubu noted that Lent is a season of fasting, abstinence, and penitence for Christians, following the example of Jesus Christ before His crucifixion. He described Ramadan as a sacred month for Muslims that emphasises sacrifice, devotion, service, love, and charity, adding that it remains one of the five pillars of Islam.
The president encouraged Nigerians to reflect deeply beyond fasting and to uphold the principles of their faiths in their relationship with God and fellow citizens.
