The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, has received an upgraded solar-powered electric tricycle as part of efforts to promote youth empowerment and sustainable innovation.
The tricycle was developed through a partnership between House of Destiny and the National Commercial Tricycles and Motorcycles Owners and Riders Association (NATOMORAS).
Speaking in Abuja, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Maryam Keshinro, commended both organisations for the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward easing the challenges faced by vulnerable youths. She likened the collaboration to the three wheels of a tricycle—balanced and mutually reinforcing in advancing youth empowerment.
Keshinro said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises youth development. She described the tricycles as tools for employment, dignity and self-reliance, encouraging beneficiaries to further innovate and embrace solar-powered technologies that support Nigeria’s green economy transition.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer of House of Destiny, Dr. Israel Olajumoke, said the initiative demonstrates how strategic partnerships can create jobs, stimulate innovation and provide sustainable income opportunities for young Nigerians. He added that the programme also promotes women’s participation in male-dominated sectors.
President of NATOMORAS, Alhaji Usman Gwoza, represented by the association’s Secretary, Ms. Madonna Corosi, disclosed that 20 solar-powered tricycles were distributed in Yobe State, bringing the total number distributed nationwide to 74 units.
She noted that the initiative promotes entrepreneurship, renewable energy adoption and expanded economic opportunities for youths across the country.
