Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has firmly denied circulating political speculation involving Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. Reports alleged that Fayemi hosted Kwankwaso in a secret political meeting at his Abuja residence. However, Fayemi described the claim as completely false and misleading.
A statement from his media office dismissed the report and urged public caution. Ahmad Sajoh, Head of Fayemi’s Media Office, released the clarification on Thursday. He stated that the claim lacked factual basis and should be ignored. The report first surfaced on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday.
Several users shared the claim alongside an old video clip. The footage showed Fayemi greeting Kwankwaso at his residence years earlier. However, the media office explained the context behind their last encounter. According to the statement, Fayemi met Kwankwaso only once in the past year. That meeting occurred at a public book launch in Abuja.
The event celebrated Mohammed Bello Adoke’s memoir presentation.It was neither private nor politically motivated. Fayemi emphasized that no closed-door political discussions took place. He clarified that their relationship remains personal and non-partisan. Both leaders have maintained friendship since serving as state governors.
Nevertheless, Fayemi stressed that friendship does not imply political alignment. He warned against politicizing private relationships for partisan gains. Fayemi also highlighted his diverse network of associates. His friendships span multiple political parties and ideological backgrounds.
Some associates remain outside active partisan politics entirely. He reaffirmed his dedication to national unity and principled engagement. Fayemi further emphasized responsible public communication in political discourse. Finally, he urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing online.
