The All Progressives Congress has begun strategic efforts to manage recent defections and internal disputes nationwide. Party leaders initiated these moves amid rising political consultations ahead of the March national convention. The APC National Working Committee met governors in a closed-door session in Abuja.
The meeting took place at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro. Governor Hope Uzodinma led the APC governors to the high-level consultation. National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda headed the party’s National Working Committee delegation. Several governors from different states attended the strategic meeting.
The gathering focused on strengthening party unity and preparing for future elections. Sources revealed that discussions centred on the APC’s 2027 electoral strategy. Leaders also examined how to integrate defecting opposition governors smoothly.
Recently, eight governors from opposition parties joined the APC. Many defectors arrived with large political structures and loyal supporters. Party officials acknowledged the political gains from the defections. However, they warned that poor management could trigger internal conflicts.
Therefore, leaders discussed strategies to accommodate both old and new members. The agenda also covered electronic registration and congress preparations. Ward and local government congresses featured prominently in the discussions. These congresses will shape delegate strength ahead of the national convention.
Party insiders also raised concerns about crises in several state chapters. Rivers State received special attention due to unresolved leadership disputes. Analysts say defections have expanded the APC’s national political reach. The shift has strengthened federal and state-level coordination for the ruling party.
