The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun has announced the conviction of nine individuals arrested for vote buying in the state.
Speaking on a radio programme in Osogbo on Monday, INEC Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, emphasized the commission’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections during the upcoming gubernatorial poll. He called on political parties to adhere to INEC rules and avoid disrupting the electoral process.
On the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Agboke revealed that the commission has upgraded its systems to prevent double or multiple registrations and warned that offenders would face arrest.
He also urged media cooperation to curb misinformation, stressing that all reports should be verified with INEC before publication. To enhance transparency, all media professionals in Osun have been added to a WhatsApp group managed by the state commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Musa Olurode. Agboke warned that legal action would be taken against journalists or outlets publishing defamatory or unverified information about the commission.
