Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Tuesday inaugurated the Laderin–Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station Road in Abeokuta. He announced plans to open 20 additional roads across the state. These projects mark Ogun’s upcoming 50th anniversary.
Created on February 13, 1976, by the late Gen. Murtala Muhammed, Ogun joins other states like Oyo, Ondo, and Benue in Nigeria’s state history. By February 2026, Ogun will celebrate five decades of existence. During the inauguration, Governor Abiodun highlighted the ongoing Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto–Opele Road project.
The 100-kilometre highway connects the east and west of the state. Once completed, it will allow motorists to bypass Abeokuta, boosting trade and easing traffic. He described the Prof. Wole Soyinka Train Station as a key transport hub linking Ogun to Lagos, Oyo, and northern Nigeria. His administration is rehabilitating access roads to support multimodal transportation.
Between 100,000 and 150,000 passengers commute daily along this corridor. The train station road is part of over 1,600 kilometres of state roads constructed under the Abiodun administration. Work has also started on the second lane of the Atan–Lusada–Agbara Road. The three-kilometre road will improve access to the MKO Abiola Trade Fair Complex and surrounding communities.
Former House member Chief Bode Mustapha praised the project. He noted that these roads have transformed transportation and commercial activities in Ogun Central and Abeokuta.
