The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu has charged troops of the 3 Division to remain disciplined, committed,and professional, describing their role in tackling security challenges on the Plateau as vital to national stability.
Shaibu gave the charge on Monday during an operational visit to the Division in Jos, according to a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele.
He stressed that discipline is the foundation of military service, noting that service in the Nigerian Army is voluntary and rooted in the responsibility to defend the nation. The army chief said he had been briefed on operational and welfare challenges facing the troops, adding that key concerns raised had already been addressed.
Shaibu assured the personnel that Army Headquarters was providing necessary support and equipment, emphasising that troop welfare remains a top priority.
He urged young soldiers to respect the chain of command and learn from their superiors, while highlighting the role of officers in mentoring subordinates. He also called on troops to maintain high physical fitness and mental alertness to meet operational demands.
The COAS described Senior Non-Commissioned Officers as a critical link between officers and soldiers, urging them to provide effective leadership. On ongoing operations, he said the security situation on the Plateau was unique but assured that Operation Engineering Peace was being properly guided and supported.
Shaibu encouraged personnel to channel grievances through appropriate channels and reassured them that their sacrifices were valued, urging them to serve with professionalism and honour.
