The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has suspended three medical officers over alleged medical negligence. The suspension followed the death of a housewife, Aishatu Umar, after a surgical procedure. The incident occurred at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano.
The Board confirmed that the suspension takes immediate effect. According to the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, a preliminary investigation was conducted. The investigation was ordered by the Executive Secretary, Mansur Mudi Nagoda. Findings confirmed that the incident occurred at the facility.
In line with accountability and patient safety, the Board suspended three personnel involved. The affected officers have been barred from all clinical duties pending further action. This step reflects the Board’s commitment to professionalism within public health institutions.
Furthermore, the matter has been referred to the Kano State Medical Ethical Committee. The committee will carry out a detailed investigation. Appropriate disciplinary measures will follow existing laws and professional standards.
The Board expressed deep condolences to the family of the deceased. It also sympathised with them over the painful loss. Additionally, the Board reassured the public of its zero tolerance for negligence.
Management stated that patient safety remains a top priority across all state health facilities. As a result, internal monitoring and professional enforcement measures will be strengthened. The Board also pledged to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Earlier reports indicated that the deceased died after prolonged abdominal pain. Family members alleged medical negligence following surgery performed in September 2025. A relative stated she suffered severe pain for four months.
She reportedly passed away around 1am on Tuesday. Following public concern, the Board ordered an immediate and thorough investigation. The case continues to attract attention across Kano State.
