Popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM1) has written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, claiming he is being excluded from the selection of the next Awujale of Ijebu land.
In a letter dated January 8, 2026, Ayinde, through his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, alleged that the Fusengbuwa ruling house issued directives that violate the Chieftaincy Declaration and Obas and Chiefs Law, aimed at preventing him from contesting the stool. The Awujale race reportedly has over 60 aspirants, though the ruling house maintains Ayinde is not a family member and ineligible.
Ayinde previously sought an injunction at the Ogun State High Court, which was dismissed, and later withdrew the suit. In his recent letter, he raised concerns over a notice directing aspirants to collect nomination forms and appear before a screening committee on January 12, 2026, claiming the process for delegates scheduled for January 10 is irregular.
He urged the governor’s intervention to ensure fairness and due process.
The Fusengbuwa ruling house, through Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the claims as “arrant nonsense” and defended the screening process, citing the difficulty of managing over 20,000 members.
The nomination meeting remains scheduled for January 12, 2026. The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years.
Attempts to get a comment from the Ogun State Government were unsuccessful.
