President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Odusote as Director-General of the Nigerian Law School. This landmark decision positions her as the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962. According to an official statement, her appointment becomes effective on January 10, 2026, and will run for four years.
She will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure concludes on January 9, 2026. Currently, Odusote serves as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus. Consequently, her appointment reflects deep institutional knowledge and long-standing administrative experience.
Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. In addition, she obtained a Master’s degree in company and commercial law from the same institution. She later completed a Doctorate in Law at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.
Her academic research focuses on public law and the administration of justice. In 2001, she joined the Nigerian Law School as a lecturer. Since then, she has served in several strategic roles, including head of the academic department and director of academics. Furthermore, she has held multiple campus leadership positions.
During her career, she also worked briefly as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University. As Director-General, Odusote will oversee academic leadership, administrative operations, and strategic planning across all campuses. Moreover, she will coordinate engagements with the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association. Ultimately, her appointment signals progressive leadership and renewed direction for legal education in Nigeria.
