The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, welcomed Afrobeats star Asake and his mother to the ancient palace in Ile-Ife. He described the visit as a symbolic homecoming.
The monarch shared a video of the visit on his official X handle on Monday night. The footage showed Asake with palace chiefs and other dignitaries.
In a message, the Ooni referred to Asake as his son and celebrated his global rise. He praised Ile-Ife for shaping the singer during his formative years.
“Today fills my heart with deep joy as I welcome my son, Asake, back home to Ile-Ife. This sacred land is where he spent many of his formative years, moulded by hard work, discipline, and quiet determination,” he said.
Honouring Asake’s Mother and Team
The Ooni praised Asake’s mother, calling her a steadfast pillar in the singer’s journey. He thanked her for raising him with resilience, love, and strength.
“Asake’s mother has been his steadfast pillar, and I am equally delighted to welcome her back home while extending my heartfelt gratitude for raising him to reach this remarkable stage of life,” he added.
He also commended Asake’s management team, led by his manager Lala, for their loyalty and dedication. According to the Ooni, their commitment reflects the Yoruba value of Omoluabi.
“I pay special tribute to Lala and the entire crew who stood faithfully by my son. Your dedication reflects the true spirit of Omoluabi,” he said.
Acknowledging OAU’s Role
The monarch acknowledged the role of Obafemi Awolowo University in shaping Asake. He expressed appreciation to the institution and Professor Toyin Ogundeji for nurturing him into a global cultural ambassador.
“I express my sincere appreciation to Professor Toyin Ogundeji and Obafemi Awolowo University for nurturing one of the greatest musical icons of our time, who has carried Yoruba heritage onto the global stage,” he stated.
Asake’s Recent Moves
Asake’s visit comes shortly after his return to Nigeria following two years abroad. The singer has confirmed that he has relocated to Los Angeles, United States.
