Residents of Offa in Kwara State were thrown into panic on Thursday night after explosions were reported in parts of the town, leading to property damage and heightened security concerns.
The incident occurred around midnight on December 25 at two separate locations. One explosion was reported near the Eid praying ground area, while another occurred close to a hotel within the same vicinity. An undetonated device was later discovered at one of the sites, prompting security agencies to cordon off the affected areas.
Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government, Abiola Azeez Babatunde, said the council was aware of reports surrounding the suspected incident.
In a statement, he disclosed that the affected areas had been secured to allow for a thorough investigation. The Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Suleiman Olatunji Omituntun, also visited the scene to assess the situation.
Residents were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while investigations continue. The local government assured the public of its commitment to safety and collaboration with security agencies.
The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the explosions. As of Friday morning, no casualties had been officially reported.
