Former NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has vowed to closely monitor INEC ahead of the 2027 elections. He described the commission’s role as vital to Nigeria’s democratic survival.
Kwankwaso spoke at the NNPP national convention held in Abuja on Saturday. The event followed the swearing-in of newly re-elected party executives. INEC officials, party leaders, and delegates from across Nigeria attended the convention.
During his address, Kwankwaso congratulated INEC on appointing Professor Joash Amupitan as chairman. He stressed that public trust depends heavily on credible and transparent elections. According to him, INEC’s actions can strengthen or weaken democracy nationwide.
Therefore, the party intends to remain vigilant as preparations for 2027 intensify. Kwankwaso also promised sustained efforts to expand the NNPP across all regions. He praised Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, for supporting the party consistently.
Meanwhile, the convention ratified key NEC decisions and elected new NWC members. This development signals deeper preparations following NNPP’s strong 2023 showing. In 2023, the party won the Kano governorship and dominated parts of the North-West.
However, electoral controversies involving BVAS and iReV generated nationwide criticism. NNPP leaders insist those lessons will guide future strategies. Governor Yusuf urged unity, inclusiveness, and stronger youth and women participation.
Similarly, Chairman Ajuji Ahmed pledged improved performance and strict internal democracy. He said Nigerians expect NNPP to lead democratic reforms.
Finally, party leaders emphasised grassroots strength over political godfatherism. They believe broad participation remains the party’s greatest asset.
