The Lagos State Government LAWMA has arrested three individuals for illegally dumping refuse along Ikotun–Igando Road. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrests on his X handle Tuesday. The operation occurred early Monday morning, conducted by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA). Whose Waste Infractions Surveillance and Investigation Team targeted waste blackspots along the busy road corridor.
As a result, Muosolu Ogochukwu, 35, Adedigba Kazeem, 35, and Isaac Monday, 24, were apprehended. Authorities immediately transferred the suspects to the LAWMA legal team at Oshodi Mobile Court, where they will face further legal proceedings for violating environmental laws and regulations. Wahab emphasized the state’s determination to maintain cleanliness and enforce anti-dumping laws effectively, warning residents against indiscriminate waste disposal.
This arrest follows a series of crackdown operations in December targeting illegal waste activities. Last week, the government launched a manhunt after hoodlums attacked four sanitation officials in Victoria Island during an enforcement operation at a local restaurant. The restaurant supervisor was arrested, and the facility remains sealed pending further investigations, after authorities discovered untreated wastewater, fats, and oils had been discharged into the environment.
Through continuous monitoring, LAWMA and sanitation officials aim to create a healthier, safer Lagos environment.
