Bruno Fernandes has admitted he felt hurt by Manchester United’s approach to transfer interest last summer.
The United captain sensed the club were open to letting him leave during talks over a move to Saudi Arabia. Al Hilal were willing to pay around £100m for the midfielder.
The offer came a year after Fernandes turned down another transfer. He believed he would have won “many trophies” at that club. Despite the financial appeal, he chose to stay at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Portuguese TV station Canal 11, Fernandes explained his decision.
“I decided not to go, not only for family reasons, but because I genuinely liked the club,” he said.
However, he admitted the club’s attitude disappointed him.
“From the club I felt, ‘if you go it’s not that bad for us’,” Fernandes said. “It hurts me. More than hurting, it makes me sad.”
The midfielder stressed his commitment to United. He pointed to his availability and effort on the pitch.
“I always give my best. I’m always available,” he added.
In October, Fernandes said United told him they would not block a move if he wanted to leave. At the same time, they said they wanted him to stay.
Sky Sports News understands the club still see Fernandes as a key part of their plans. He remains under contract until 2027, with the option of an extra year.
Despite his disappointment, Fernandes remains committed to Manchester United.
