Super Eagles and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has won the GQ Sportsman of the Year award in Turkey. The 26-year-old received the honour at a black-tie ceremony in Istanbul on Wednesday.
GQ Magazine, a leading men’s lifestyle publication, organises the annual awards to celebrate top achievers. The accolade recognises exceptional performers in sports, music, and film. Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has become a fan favourite, leading the club’s domestic success.
In his debut season, he scored 37 goals and assisted seven in 41 appearances. His contributions helped Galatasaray secure both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup titles. The club then signed him permanently from Napoli for a record €75 million.
Despite injuries this season, Osimhen has netted 11 goals in 14 matches across competitions.
For Nigeria, he remained a key Super Eagles player during World Cup qualifiers. After missing four matches, he scored six goals in five games, reaching the play-offs.
He also scored twice against Gabon in the semi-final but missed the final due to injury. Osimhen is set to lead Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
After the award, he thanked GQ, Galatasaray, and supporters for their continuous support. He promised to keep giving his best for his family, club, and fans worldwide. The ceremony also honoured Turkish actor Aras Aydın and actress Sinem Ünsal.
