The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria recorded a major milestone on Tuesday, 9th December 2025 as it inducted 1,600 new accounting technicians during the 63rd ATSWA, Accounting Technicians Scheme, West Africa Ceremony in Lagos. This cohort set a new record, surpassing the previous 1,303 inductees celebrated in July 2025.
The event gathered senior ICAN leaders, past presidents, professional colleagues, and families of the new members. Key guests included Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, Special Guest of Honour, and Mallam Tijjani Isa, Chairman of the Occasion and 58th ICAN President. Their presence underscored the significance of the ceremony.
ICAN President and Council Chairman, Mallam Haruna Yahaya, delivered a compelling Admission Address. He urged the inductees to uphold the values tied to the ATS qualification and described the induction as a defining stage that demands integrity, discipline, and commitment. Also he reminded them that the ATSWA framework remains one of the most standardised qualifications in West Africa, ensuring strong credibility for certified technicians.
With this induction, the new members joined over 35,181 ICAN-certified technicians across the region. They also gained recognition under the Association of Accounting Technicians, West Africa, strengthening their professional mobility.
Yahaya encouraged the inductees to pursue continuous growth and avoid complacency. He stressed that accounting requires integrity and competence. He also advised them to embrace new technologies and stay aligned with evolving regulations.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed highlighted the crucial role of accounting technicians in supporting accountability and organisational efficiency. He emphasised that professionalism and integrity remain essential for long-term success.
The ceremony ended with the Oath of Allegiance, marking the official entry of the inductees into the accounting profession. Families and colleagues celebrated the achievement, making the day memorable for ICAN and the West African accounting community.
