Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) closed its 2025 Leadership and Mentoring Conference with a strong call for reforms that boost women’s representation in public leadership and corporate governance. The Lagos event, themed “Claiming Our Future,” gathered policymakers, business leaders, and development partners who examined how women’s leadership strengthens national stability and economic growth.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Barrister Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to inclusive governance. He stressed that women’s leadership enriches competitiveness and drives sustainable development.
Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the keynote speaker and 2025 WISCAR Awardee, highlighted the transformative impact of women in decision-making roles. She noted that institutions and communities thrive when women shape policies and lead reforms.
A major milestone included the graduation of the first Women in Law Mentoring Programme cohort. This initiative, delivered with FIDA Nigeria, trained 105 mid-career legal professionals through mentorship and policy exposure. The programme aims to build a strong pipeline of women who can influence Nigeria’s legal and public institutions. WISCAR also plans to expand this model to engineering, media, and finance.
Founder Amina Oyagbola emphasised that gender inclusion drives economic progress. She cited global data showing significant GDP gains from increased female participation and stronger corporate performance from gender-balanced leadership.
The conference elevated the agenda of the Nigeria Women in Leadership Coalition. The coalition is pushing for 35 percent women in government cabinets, 35 percent women in corporate executive roles, and expanded family-friendly labour policies by 2027.
WISCAR also honoured outstanding allies and alumni who demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to gender equality.
With over 17,000 women trained, WISCAR continues to accelerate national transformation through leadership development and mentorship.
