The National Bureau of Statistics has announced a drop in the average petrol price across Nigeria. The agency reported that the average price of a litre of petrol fell from N1,184.83 in October 2024 to N1,052.31 in October 2025. This figure shows an 11.18 per cent year-on-year decline.
The NBS revealed these details in its latest Petrol Price Watch released in Abuja on Tuesday. However, the report noted an 8.42 per cent month-on-month increase from the N970.59 recorded in September 2025. This rise highlights the continuous price adjustments seen in recent months.
At the state level, Kogi posted the highest petrol price at N1,110.00 per litre. Sokoto followed with N1,105.93, while Borno recorded N1,101.63. Meanwhile, Oyo offered the lowest price at N1,001.79. Nasarawa and Abia also recorded lower prices at N1,009.38 and N1,012.50 per litre.
By regional comparison, the North-East recorded the highest petrol price at N1,072.74. In contrast, the South-West posted the lowest regional average at N1,032.81.The NBS also published its Diesel Price Watch for October 2025. The report showed an average diesel price of N1,398.57 per litre. This represents a 2.96 per cent drop from the N1,441.28 recorded in October 2024. Yet, the price rose by 9.45 per cent from the N1,277.81 recorded in September 2025.
Across states, Enugu recorded the highest diesel price at N1,468.29. Niger and Jigawa followed closely. Katsina, Edo, and Kebbi posted the lowest prices. Regionally, the South-East had the highest diesel price, while the South-South recorded the lowest.
