The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to safe learning through the Safe School Initiative. Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, made the announcement during the 2025 International Students’ Day celebration in Abuja, organized by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement.
Uzoka-Anite said the government will continue funding education, teachers’ salaries, school feeding programmes, and safe learning environments. She added that the creativity and resilience of students are central to Nigeria’s development.
Honouring Academic Excellence
Special Assistant on Student Engagement, Sunday Asefon, highlighted the role of education in nation-building. Top students from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and the Nigerian Law School were recognized. Awardees received scholarships, laptops, cash prizes, and other empowerment tools. Exceptional secondary-school students received N100,000 each.
Asefon said these efforts align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of student welfare. He noted that students are not just leaders of tomorrow but contributors to national growth today.
International Students’ Day
International Students’ Day commemorates the 1939 Nazi crackdown on Czech students. This year, the National Association of Nigerian Students marked the day in Abuja with the theme, “Empowering Students to be Agents of Change,” promoting patriotism, productivity, and student unity.
