Supporters of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, have called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step aside and support Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made during a One Million Man March held across four towns in Abia State, Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, and Uzuakoli, to celebrate Obi’s 64th birthday.
Speaking at the rally, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, coordinator of the Obidient Movement in Abia, praised Atiku’s past contributions to nation-building but said Obi has the integrity, national appeal, and leadership record needed to “quickly fix” Nigeria.
“Atiku has done his best. His biggest legacy now would be to support Obi in 2027,” Obiesili said.
He also urged opposition parties to unite behind Obi as a consensus candidate, especially if the presidency is zoned to the South. Obiesili noted that Obi’s simplicity, transparency, and grassroots support make him the most viable option to challenge President Tinubu.
The event was described as a voluntary show of support for Obi’s values of integrity, character, and hope. Momentum continues to build nationwide for the Obidient movement, with calls for stronger opposition unity ahead of 2027.
