The Independent National Electoral Commission recorded over 3.4 million new voters nationwide.This milestone came during the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
According to its week 13 update, INEC confirmed 3,441,121 completed registrations. These figures covered both online pre-registrations and physical walk-in applicants. Notably, 2,068,384 citizens completed their registration through the online portal. Meanwhile, 1,372,737 others registered physically at designated centres across the country.
State analysis revealed that Jigawa recorded the highest number of registrants. Specifically, the state logged 201,047 registrations, representing 5.84 percent. Similarly, Lagos followed with 181,095 registrations, while Kano ranked third. Furthermore, youth participation remained significantly high throughout the registration period.
Citizens aged 18 to 34 accounted for 2,354,768 registrants nationwide. This figure represented 68.43 percent of the total registered voters. In addition, women recorded a higher turnout compared to men. Females accounted for 1,922,143 registrations, surpassing male registrations significantly.
Occupational data showed that students formed the largest group of new voters. They recorded 1,235,931 registrations, representing 35.92 percent of the total. Meanwhile, business owners and agricultural workers followed closely behind. INEC also confirmed that 48,330 Persons with Disabilities registered successfully.
However, the commission described the figures as provisional pending data verification. Consequently, INEC will conduct data clean-up and biometric validation processes. Additionally, registration remains suspended in the Federal Capital Territory. Finally, INEC urged eligible Nigerians to complete registration before the official deadline.
