The three host nations of the 2026 FIFA World Cup the United States, Mexico and Canada have all been eliminated from the tournament after failing to reach the quarter-finals.
The United States became the final host nation to exit after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Belgium in their Round of 16 clash in Seattle.
Canada had earlier been knocked out by Morocco, losing 3-0 after the North African side produced a strong second-half performance. Mexico then suffered a 3-2 defeat to England at the Estadio Azteca in front of more than 80,000 supporters.
Mexico had been hoping to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since hosting the tournament in 1986, but England’s attacking quality ended their campaign.
The elimination of all three hosts marks an unusual development in the history of the expanded 48-team World Cup. The 2026 tournament is being staged across 16 cities in the US, Canada and Mexico.
With the hosts eliminated, the remaining teams are now competing for the trophy without any home nation remaining in the quarter-final race.
The tournament began on June 11 and is scheduled to conclude with the final on July 19.
