The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that 12 people were killed in a gunmen attack on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area.
According to the police, the victims include 10 men and two women, with two additional bodies later discovered during search operations in nearby bushes. The attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. on March 29, prompting a swift response from security agencies.
The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, personally led a joint team of officers and other security personnel to the scene to restore calm and prevent further violence.
Authorities say a coordinated operation is ongoing, with security forces combing surrounding areas to track down and arrest the attackers. The bodies of the victims have been deposited in a mortuary, while efforts continue to identify them.
The police have also increased security presence in the area, deploying additional personnel and operational assets to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The command commiserated with the families of the victims and urged residents with useful information to come forward, assuring that those responsible will be brought to justice.
