Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old, dressed in a “Freedom” T-shirt, was answering audience questions when a gunshot rang out. Witnesses said he collapsed instantly as panic spread.
Authorities described the incident as a “targeted attack,” saying the shot came from a rooftop overlooking the student courtyard. Two men were questioned and released, though one was charged with obstruction. A manhunt for the shooter continues.
Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on Truth Social, calling him “legendary,” while Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democrats condemned the attack. In a video statement, Trump blamed the “radical left” for fueling political violence and vowed a crackdown on those “who contributed to this atrocity.”
Kirk, head of the conservative youth movement Turning Point USA, was on the first stop of a 15-event national tour.
