The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has listed key requirements for schools ahead of its full migration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to computer-based testing (CBT) by 2026.
At a sensitisation programme in Port Harcourt, WAEC’s Head of Examinations, Mr. Lucky Njoagwuani, said schools must provide at least 250 laptops with backups, a robust server and LAN, CCTV, air-conditioned halls, steady power supply with a 40kVA generator, and a holding room for candidates.
He explained that CBT would reduce logistics costs, boost exam security, and improve accessibility. WAEC’s Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adeniran-Amusan Akim, urged schools to upgrade ICT centres, warning that those unable to meet standards would be moved to designated centres.
The event, organised with NAPPS and partners like HP, Lenovo, and the Bank of Industry, also featured donations of ICT gadgets to schools.
