Fear has gripped residents of Lakowe’s Orita Adeba and Sangotedo in Lagos State after suspected cult clashes left two young men dead in separate attacks on Saturday.
Lakowe Incident
In Lakowe, a young man was brutally attacked with machetes and left by the roadside near Orita Adeba. Witnesses said the attackers, believed to be members of the Aye cult group, cut off the victim’s right wrist before fleeing.
A resident said:
We can no longer sleep at night. They left his body at Orita Adeba. This has been happening repeatedly. They are killing each other to settle scores.”
A short video circulating online showed the victim lying in a pool of blood, dressed in shorts and a white vest, as mourners gathered around.
Sangotedo Killing
On the same day, another young man was found dead near a culvert in Sangotedo. Though the motive is unclear, residents believe it is also linked to ongoing cult violence in Ibeju-Lekki.
Rising Cult Violence in Lagos
Residents say at least three killings have happened in Lakowe within weeks, leaving the community in fear.
A local, Fatai, said:
“They just started killing each other. It has happened more than three times in a short period. The boy killed is also believed to be a cult member. They are using their lives to count scores.”
The Lagos State Police Command has yet to release an official statement, though officers confirmed investigations are ongoing.
Cult-related clashes remain a major security challenge in Lagos, with recent cases reported in Ajah, Ikorodu, Mushin, and Ibeju-Lekki.
