TradeCard, a global gift card trading platform, has officially launched in Nigeria with its mobile trading app and a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project aimed at reducing transport expenses for commuters. The launch event in Lagos highlighted the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between TradeCard and the Harvesters Africa Empowerment Foundation, introducing the “Routes of Hope” initiative.
Through this partnership, over 2,000 commuters will benefit monthly from subsidised rides, resulting in more than 6,000 return trips. Each participant is expected to save up to ₦12,000, providing significant financial relief.
According to Clever Soni, TradeCard’s brand representative in Nigeria, the company seeks to change public perceptions around gift card trading. He explained that gift cards remain legitimate financial instruments, yet in Nigeria, they have often been linked to scams. By ensuring transparency and strict legal compliance, TradeCard aims to build trust while creating a safe marketplace for users.
Already operational in several countries, TradeCard allows individuals to list and sell gift cards at their chosen prices, with most transactions completed in under five minutes. The platform primarily targets young adults, freelancers, students, and small business owners who frequently receive international gift cards. To further build confidence, the company also plans to host educational workshops across Nigerian universities and polytechnics.
Speaking on the partnership, Diepriye Okunue-Olu, Team Lead at Harvesters Africa Empowerment Foundation, emphasised the impact of high transport costs on Lagos residents. He noted that the programme will not only ease financial burdens but also provide commuters with safe and reliable buses.
Ultimately, TradeCard’s entry into Nigeria combines financial innovation with social impact. By blending technology-driven services and community-focused initiatives, the company aims to become Africa’s leading digital asset exchange platform.
