The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily disabled access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates due to the discovery of technical issues affecting some subjects.
In an official statement released on Thursday, WAEC explained that the issue emerged during an internal post-result review. The statement, signed by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs, revealed that the glitch was linked to a recently introduced innovation aimed at combating examination malpractice.
Innovation Behind the Issue: Paper Serialisation
WAEC noted that it had introduced a new system known as paper serialisation for key subjects in the 2025 exams, specifically Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics. This innovation was part of its broader strategy to curb examination malpractice and enhance the credibility of the WASSCE.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation—paper serialisation… The paper serialisation was carried out in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics,” the Council said.
However, following the release of the results, WAEC’s internal review process uncovered technical bugs affecting the serialised subjects. As a result, the Council has temporarily suspended access to the WAEC result checker portal for all 2025 school candidates.
WAEC Responds with Urgent Review
Emphasising its commitment to fairness and professionalism, WAEC announced that it is currently conducting an urgent review and correction of the technical issues. The Council assured candidates that this action is being taken in the best interest of accuracy and transparency.
“The Council, being a responsive body that is sensitive to fairness and professionalism, has decided to urgently review and correct the technical glitches that led to the situation. As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal,” the statement added.
Candidates Advised to Recheck Results After 24 Hours
WAEC extended its apologies to all affected candidates and urged them to revisit the WAEC online result portal after 24 hours.
“We extend our deep and sincere apologies. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we work diligently to resolve this matter with transparency and urgency,” Adesina stated.
What This Means for WAEC Candidates
For candidates eagerly awaiting their WAEC 2025 results, this temporary suspension may cause some anxiety. However, WAEC has made it clear that the delay is purely technical and is being addressed with urgency.
Candidates are advised to:
- Wait for 24 hours before attempting to check their results again.
- Use the official WAEC result checker portal only.
- Stay updated via WAEC’s official communication channels.
