Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator for Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, returned to Sokoto metropolis on Friday. He was welcomed by thousands of supporters from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states. Political analysts see the reception as a show of strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tambuwal, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, was greeted by party loyalists, youth groups, and women’s organisations. The streets were filled with chants, banners, and solidarity songs.
Speaking to the crowd, Tambuwal, who led Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, criticised President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led government. He accused the administration of worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and political instability.
He called for unity among Nigerians to remove the APC in 2027. “We must join forces to send APC packing. We will not be silenced or intimidated,” he said.
On reports of his visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Tambuwal said it was voluntary. He denied claims of withdrawing over ₦2 billion monthly from the Sokoto State Government account. He described the allegations as “blatant lies.”
Tambuwal accused the state government of political witch-hunts. He said previous inquiries had found nothing against him.
“They can set up fake panels, but they will find nothing. The truth will always stand,” he declared.
