Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to strengthening social protection programmes through the National Social Register (NSR) to support vulnerable households.
Represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube, at a stakeholders’ engagement on Monday, Sanwo-Olu praised President Bola Tinubu for repositioning the NSR as a credible tool for targeted interventions.
He explained that Lagos has adopted the register under its Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, stressing that it is more than a database but “a lifeline for millions of Nigerians.”
The CEO of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Dr. Badamasi Lawal, also described the NSR as the cornerstone of inclusive growth, saying collaboration across all levels of government and civil society will ensure no Nigerian is left behind.
The NSR, which captures data on vulnerable households, is designed to improve the delivery of welfare programmes. Lagos hopes its integration will expand coverage, promote transparency, and strengthen accountability.
