A total of 69 students out of 310 have graduated with First-Class Honours from Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan. This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adesola Ajayi, during a pre-convocation press briefing held on campus on Thursday.
The combined 3rd and 4th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Friday, covers graduates from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions. Graduates are drawn from the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences as well as the Faculty of Engineering.
Breakdown of Academic Achievements
Professor Ajayi detailed the distribution of academic classifications across both faculties:
- Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences:
- 28 First-Class Honours
- 62 Second-Class Upper Division
- 35 Second-Class Lower Division
- 6 Third-Class Honours
- Faculty of Engineering:
- 41 First-Class Honours
- 89 Second-Class Upper Division
- 36 Second-Class Lower Division
- 11 Third-Class Honours
“These achievements reflect the dedication of our students and faculty,” Ajayi stated, emphasizing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and practical skill development.
Triple Certification for Graduates
In a bid to empower graduates for a competitive job market, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that each graduating student will receive three certificates:
- Bachelor’s Degree in their chosen field
- Diploma in French Language
- Certificate in Vocational Studies
Professor Ajayi noted that these additional qualifications aim to prepare graduates not just as job seekers, but as future employers and innovators.
“There is no going back on vocational training,” he said. “We are equipping our students not just with technical skills, but with entrepreneurial insight — teaching them to identify opportunities, take initiative, and leave a lasting impact.”
Institutional Development and Government Support
Ajayi also acknowledged the significant infrastructural development at the university, made possible through the support of Governor Seyi Makinde, the institution’s Visitor. He highlighted that over ₦1.4 billion was invested in infrastructure in the past year alone, enhancing the learning environment and overall student experience.
