Once a source of pride for Ipokia, Ogun State, the 55-year-old General Hospital has fallen into shocking disrepair. Leaking roofs, broken beds, clogged bathrooms, and empty wards now define the once-busy facility.
Commissioned in 1970, the hospital has seen little refurbishment since. Much of its equipment has been removed, forcing patients to bring their own mattresses and endure unsafe conditions. A recent visit revealed cracked walls, sagging ceilings, and foul-smelling bathrooms unfit for use.
The female ward was empty, the male ward had just one patient, and the maternity ward housed only four mothers. Frustrated residents say many now turn to private or unregistered clinics, or even resort to self-medication.
Once a beacon of healthcare and community pride, Ipokia General Hospital now stands as a neglected relic, symbolizing years of government failure and the urgent need for immediate intervention.
