Lionel Messi was on the scoresheet once again, but Inter Miami couldn’t secure the win as they were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Toronto FC on Sunday in MLS action.
Toronto, still without a victory this season, started strong and hit the post twice within the first 20 minutes. Their efforts paid off in the 46th minute when Federico Bernardeschi scored after a slick move inside the box.
Messi answered back in the 53rd minute, drilling a low shot into the bottom corner after being teed up by Telasco Segovia. It was his sixth MLS goal of the season, but despite his influence, Miami failed to find a winner.
Luis Suarez missed a clear chance in the second half, and Toronto continued to threaten, with Bernardeschi nearly grabbing a second. Messi remained heavily marked but still tested goalkeeper Sean Johnson late on.
Inter Miami now shift focus to the Concacaf Champions Cup quarter-final second leg against LAFC on Wednesday, where they trail 1-0 on aggregate.
