Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women in leadership positions to intensify efforts in mentoring younger women to boost female representation in governance and business.
Speaking at the State House during a visit by the Forum of Female Chief Executive Officers of Government Agencies and Organisations, Mrs. Tinubu described the CEOs as trailblazers and stressed the need for them to nurture the next generation of leaders.
She urged them to draw inspiration from iconic Nigerian matriarchs like Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo, Gambo Sawaba, and Abibat Mogaji, saying:
“Mentor young women, give scholarships, and take one person through life. Don’t look for the volume. Invest in others by replicating your success in younger women to build a stronger collective.”
The First Lady also appealed for support in completing the National Library project, noting it would help indigent students pursue their education.
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, leader of the Forum and Director-General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), pledged the group’s support for the Tinubu administration. She commended Mrs. Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiativesand her dedication to women’s empowerment, inclusion, and gender equity.
She assured that the CEOs remain committed to good governance, unity, and initiatives that promote women’s rights and national development.
