Nollywood veteran and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has confidently declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will win the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, taking over from the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
Okonkwo, who made the statement on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, emphasized that the ADC is prepared to make history by forming the next government despite its performance in past by-elections.
ADC’s Past Election Performance
Recall that during the August 16 by-elections, held across 16 constituencies in nine states, the ADC failed to secure a single seat. The All Progressives Congress (APC) dominated the polls, winning 12 out of 16 available seats, according to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, Okonkwo dismissed the idea that the ADC should be judged solely by these results. He noted that the party’s new leadership under David Mark came into effect after those primaries had already been concluded.
“True Test Will Be in 2027”
When asked whether the ADC had any real chance in 2027, Okonkwo remained optimistic:
“We stand a chance in every election in Nigeria. But I wouldn’t say the same thing for any election for which the primaries had been conducted before David Mark’s leadership. The true test of ADC will be in 2027. We are going to form the next government in Nigeria and send Tinubu back to Bourdillon.”
ADC’s Nationwide Presence and Rivers State Structure
Speaking on the party’s growth, Okonkwo stressed that the ADC now has a presence across all 36 states of the federation. In Rivers State, he revealed that former governor Rotimi Amaechi has emerged as the party’s natural leader, reinforcing ADC’s political structure in the oil-rich region.
