Ahead of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) presidential elections on October 4, former president and Nigeria Olympic Committee trustee Lanre Glover has endorsed Jibril Saidu as the next leader of the federation.
Glover, who once served as the first vice-president of the African Handball Confederation and sat on the board of the International Handball Commission, praised the outgoing president Sam Ocheho for his achievements.
“Sam Ocheho has done an excellent job bringing respectability to handball both locally and internationally,” Glover said. “There is an important need to put someone in the position to continue the trajectory, and that person is Jibril Saidu.”
He added, “This is the first time I am publicly endorsing a candidate. It is necessary to ensure that handball does not return to its former comatose state before Sam revived it. Saidu has the financial strength and experience to propel the game forward.”
Saidu currently serves as Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Nations Association and is also the North Central representative on the HFN board. With Ocheho stepping aside after serving two terms, Saidu has declared his intention to contest for the federation’s top job.
